Employment Training Program

This is a work-readiness program specially designed to assist immigrant/refugee women, skilled and unskilled, in their effort to enter and/or re-enter the Canadian workforce. Although this program’s target group is women, the organization makes provision for male participants in furtherance of its mandate to support women and their families.

The program consists of two intakes each year, September and March. Each intake is a 16-20 week training period which entails both on site workshops and off site work placements.

The on site component is an 10-12 week training session which covers such topics as:

  1. Information sessions: goal setting, job search, how to evaluate your skills, Canadian Labour standards/ Human Rights, growing careers in Saskatchewan
  2. Soft/Essential skills: team work, organizational, interpersonal, problem solving, and public speaking skills
  3. Hard/Technical skills: First Aid/CPR, Food Safe, WHIMS, resume & cover letter writing, interview skills/mock interviews, job search techniques, and making cold calls to employers
  4. ESL Classes: basic writing skills, grammar, sentence structure, pronunciations, vocabulary.

During the 6-8 week work-placements, the participants are matched with local employers for the opportunity to gain Canadian work experience. Through this component of the project, they also have the opportunity to put into practice the knowledge and skills that they may have acquired during the in-class sessions.

To qualify for this program:

  • Each applicant must meet the eligibility criteria of the funding agency
  • Each applicant must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or legally entitled to work in Canada
  • Each applicant must possess the Canadian Language Benchmark level of 3 and above
